If you love the outdoors this is one of the best towns in the country. Mountains, rivers, lakes, 30 mins to the ocean. What more could you ask for. The downside to Killarney is that the town has for a long time been over commercialised. Not many old timer pubs to relax in after a hard day on the hills. Too many souvenir shops. But if you can get over these two irritants it's a cracking spot.

Beautiful national park on the doorstep of killarney town. Has aldi, lidl, tesco, penneys, dunnes, marks and spencers, gamestop, boots, and other high street shops so can save on groceries there. The cinema is ok but the sound isn't great. Lots of nice cafes and restaurants but can be quite pricey. Three health food shops and some books shops but they are a bit touristy. Lots of hotels and happy tourists make it quite a lively place. Some of the local teenagers seem a bit yobish and go around the streets shouting - have heard on the radio that the teenagers are a bit rough. Problem with boy racers and boy racer culture amongst the teenagers. Very pretty town which is well maintained. Rents in the town are up to E200 a week more expensive than other parts of kerry but fall once you get a couple of miles outside the town. Very nice crafty alley shop which does craft activities and there are more activities than just sports for the kids. Nice leisure center with swimming pool and nice kids playground just on the edge of the national park. Good if you like irish culture and trad but still a small town really where you would be seeing the same people over and over. Quite a few non-nationals around which diversify the place. Can run out of variety but not the dullest place to live. Forget it if you want to go to a decent modern music event - you will have to travel to cork, but cork isn't too far and there is a good road. Train service to dublin etc. Not good for jobs except low paid tourism jobs but Its a good place to live if you can afford it because of the national park. Sometimes nature/biodiversity events in the park which makes a change from GAA. Fantastic, big riding stables for trekking in the park and good childcare options.
