Dundalk has a lovely architectural style all of its own. It also has lovely views to the mountains to the north. However it does not take advantage of its coastal location, it does not connect enough to the sea. Dundalk Bay is the top spot in Ireland for over-wintering waterbirds but it is not easy for the casual observer to see them. Dundalk needs more coastal access and birdhides etc.

As Irish towns go, this is one of the better ones - for shopping, recreation, eating out - all good options

The town has a bad name due to the troubles, but having spent 4 days there I think this is unjustified - good crac, lots of places to go and much to see

Just moved back after being away for 20 years - a lot of changes, all for the better - the town is not perfect, but as Irish towns go it is still one of the best.

Used to live there - has improved immensely since then - has finally moved on from the "troubles" - as long as u stay clear of the usual state funded welfare estates, the place has more or less everything one could expect from a large town - good shopping, wide choice of good restaurants, good pubs and even nice park areas. The architecture seen throughout the town is also impressive and varied. If I came back to Ireland, I would be hard pressed to find a better place to settle down - it also has the advantage of the M1 right on the doorstep - so very close to both Dublin and Belfast.

Love the town's proximity to the wonderful countryside of north Louth, the improvements in infrastructure and amenities which have taken place over the past couple of decades, don't like the growth of out of town shopping which has taken its toll on the town centre or the narrow-minded attitude of traders which has seen retaillers who would be a big draw go elsewhere.
